Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Technical Services

A geographic information system (GIS) is a computer-based tool for mapping and analyzing objects that exist and events that occur in our world. GIS allows us to visualize data in a way that is quickly understood and easily shared in order to reveal relationships and patterns.

The LOSRC GIS division is a central resource of geographic information for the region. LOSRC provides a variety of digital mapping solutions and geospatial data services for member governments and other public and private agencies. The GIS division maintains an extensive library of local, county, regional, and statewide datasets to support numerous LOSRC planning projects. GIS has played an active role in transportation, environmental, and land-use planning initiatives.
