What are the criteria for joining RSVP?
You need to be 55+ years of age and live in Madison,
Buncombe, Henderson or Transylvania County.
What types of volunteer opportunities are available?
In RSVP, we place volunteers with non-profit
agencies, local government offices, faith-based
ministries, proprietary health care agencies and
agencies who work with people in crisis. Examples
are office or clerical work, education,
environmental support, tutoring, meal delivery in
locations such as hospitals, governmental offices,
youth agencies, forestry services and law
enforcement. These are but a few examples of the
jobs and agencies for which RSVP locates volunteers.
Do I have to have any special education or skills in
order to join RSVP?
No. Some volunteers bring knowledge and/or skills
from their previous employment to their volunteer
location. Many others learn new skills, or simply
enjoy the social aspects of volunteering.
How many hours do I have to volunteer per month?
You determine that with the organization where you
volunteer. Some volunteers give several hours a
week, while others may only volunteer occasionally.
Most locations offer flexible hours and days.
Do I receive mileage?
While RSVP is unable to offer mileage to volunteers,
some agencies may.
What are the benefits of joining RSVP?
RSVP
offers free supplemental insurance, the opportunity
to earn free theater tickets, a bi-monthly
newsletter and the opportunity to join the Local
Government Federal Credit Union. We also have an
annual volunteer appreciation event along with other
occasional volunteer recognition events.
