  • Plans and coordinates various water resource protection projects in the areas of water supply watershed protection, wellhead protection, erosion and sedimentation control, agricultural pollution control, stormwater management, river management, riparian corridor protection, etc.
  • Plans and coordinates various air and energy management projects including coordination of the Regional Clean Air Campaign and Land of Sky Clean Cities Program (alternative fuel/advanced technology vehicle programs).
  • Conducts environmental training and public education programs.

Representative Projects

  • Carolina Blue Skies and Green Jobs Initiative – assisting Asheville, Hendersonville, Henderson County and Mission Hospital to implement natural gas vehicle and fueling infrastructure projects under a US DOE Clean Cities grant.
  • Asheville Area Electric Vehicles Readiness Initiative – working with stakeholders to plan for the roll out of the high speed plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs). Securing grant funds for the installation of PEV charging stations across the region.
  • Annual Air Quality Workshop and Press Conference.
  • Assisting local governments with stormwater management programs and compliance with EPA Phase II Stormwater Rules.
