Waste Management
Waste Management
Land-of-Sky Regional Council offers technical and
planning aid to our member governments and others on waste
management issues. We work to improve program cost
effectiveness, waste reduction, material reuse, recycling,
buying recycled products, composting, landfilling, and
household hazardous waste management. We also offer
solid waste grant writing services, technical and regulatory
plan creation and updates, and facilitation services. Feel
free to contact the staff at any time with questions or
needs.
In an effort to improve the quality of recycling programs
across the region, member governments are working with the
Council to investigate the feasibility of bringing a new
private-sector recycling processing facility to the region.
This project hopes to increase individual program revenues,
convenience of recycling for the public, and even offer some
new materials for collection in areas that have limited
programs. Grant funding has been secured through the US
Department of Agriculture-Rural Utility Service's Water and
Environmental Services Department as well as the USDA-Rural
Utility Service's Rural Development Division.

The Region's
Household Hazardous Waste Advisory Committee (H2WAC)
has successfully implemented new HHW collection programs
in Buncombe, Madison, and Transylvania Counties. Click
the above link for more information on how you can participate
in these programs.
This project also provides a lot of great educational
and "how to" materials available on this site!!
This EPA AWARD WINNING mobile center tours schools, festivals
and more. This fun "field trip that comes to you" teaches
about the waste we generate; how, why, and where to reduce,
reuse, and recycle; what the items we recycle get made
into for us to buy; important lessons on household hazardous
waste; and a whole lot more.
