What is Strive Not to Drive?
This is an annual event to encourage people to avoid driving their car for a day (or part of a day) to experience the benefits and opportunities of walking, bicycling, riding the bus, car-pooling, roller-blading, telecommuting, etc.  On Friday, April 20, 2007 you can ride Asheville Transit for .25¢, get free coffee or breakfast from numerous participating restaurants (with coupon) and join us for the 5th annual Strive Not To Drive Film Festival at UNCA at 7:00PM.  See events page for more information.  Click here for Coffee/Breakfast Coupon.

Why Strive Not to Drive?
Having fewer cars on the road helps everyone. Streets are safer. There is less traffic congestion. The air is clearer. Strive Not to Drive aims to reduce car use for one week out of the year. It also helps Western North Carolinians keep in mind that the car is not the only OR the best way to make many kinds of trips.

If you give car-free transportation a try, you may find that it is easier and faster than driving. You get out and enjoy the day. You don’t have to deal with traffic. You don’t have to find parking. It’s cheaper. Plus there is an added bonus - you get exercise at the same time! Once you try it, you may choose the car-free approach more often in the future.

So, during Strive Not To Drive, treat our communities to a little less pollution, a little less danger, indulge yourself with some extra exercise, and pay a little extra attention to your health and well being.

How can you participate?
All you need to do is reduce your car use. Make a pledge to ride your bike to work, walk to the store, share a ride with your friends, neighbors or co-workers or ride on the bus. If you really feel ambitious, get others involved - your employer, your school or your place of worship. To register to win great prizes, CLICK HERE!
