Senior Community Service Employment Program
Experience Works
Provides training and job search services for older adults.
EXPERIENCE WORKS is a Senior Employment Program that
provides meaningful part-time paid work experience in community
service and non-profit organizations as well as opportunities
to obtain meaningful unsubsidized employment in the private
sector. The program provides short-term training
and job placement services for older adults seeking suitable
part-time or full-time employment.
Services
- Job seeking and job keeping skills training;
- Short-term classroom training to update or acquire
new skills;
- Assessment and training for alternate career opportunities;
and
- Work experience through community service placements
and on-the-job training assignments.
Training provided includes but is not limited to
- Job search skills
- Personal empowerment
- Resume design
- Interviewing skills
- Computer training
Participant Eligibility
- Must be unemployed.
- Must be at least 55 year old;
- Must be a resident of North
Carolina
- Must meet family income guidelines.
Host Agency Requirements for Community Service Placements
- Must be a non-profit or government entity;
- Provide a job description for each
position and ongoing
supervision of each employee, including an annual evaluation.
Benefits of Becoming a Host Agency
- Wage for each position is subsidized by federal funding
resulting in savings to the host agency.
- Experience Works program staff provide advertisement
for each position, payroll responsibilities, training and
ongoing support for employee and employer.
Enrollees are encouraged to register for free workshops
provided by the
Mountain
Area JobLink Career Center.
