ReDesigning the Future
The Land of Sky Regional Council is pleased to announce the opening of the ReCycle This Site design competition. This competition offers current graduate and undergraduate architectural students the chance to design an environmentally sound space to live, work and play in Asheville's artistic River District. This 13-acre site offers the opportunity for a mixed-use development through new building and adaptive reuse of existing structures and materials.
Design schemes should address creative programmatic response to the adaptive reuse of the buildings and site including residential, commercial, and office space. Submissions should consider LEED as sustainability guidance and include low environmental impact solutions.
Make Your Impact
This competition offers the opportunity to take a lead in today's green economy and gain national recognition in cutting edge eco-design.
The winning team will receive a $2500 program scholarship, have their design presented before national conferences, and feature in a professionally produced film. Winning students will also be featured in national publications and have the chance to intern at a top local architectural firm.
Students will be asked to offer nontraditional, inventive redevelopment plans to address issues of stormwater and floodplain management; erosion control, possible soil and groundwater contamination while incorporating elements of green building and land recycling
