Call to Action
Land-of-Sky Regional Council, with a grant from the EPA, is proud to announce a new architectural design competition. The challenge is to design a multiuse 13-acre site in the heart of Asheville, North Carolina's River Arts District.
When the times are changing, our spaces to live, work and play must change with them. This national competition offers current students the opportunity to kick start a career in architectural design, gain practical experience and feature their plans for a sustainable future.
Winning designs will receive a $2500 scholarship, presentation before national conferences and be featured in national publications.
The Challenge
Students will be asked to offer nontraditional, inventive redevelopment plans to address issues of stormwater and floodplain management; erosion control, possible soil and groundwater contamination while incorporating elements of green building and land recycling.
Held on the site of America's first tannery this competition offers participating students hands-on design experience in a complete redesign and rejuvenation of a once derelict site. In the heart of artistic Asheville, this competition gives the chance to shape the future of a thriving and eco-aware community.
